Guide to the Wiring Regulations

Darrell Locke “Guide to the Wiring Regulations"
Wiley | 2008-03-24 | ISBN: 0470516852 | 302 pages | PDF | 5,04 MB

Essential for electrical installers and installation designers, the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) have been completely restructured and updated for the first time in over a decade: this 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671: 2008) will come into effect in June 2008. Guide to the Wiring Regulations is an authoritative and accessible guide to the 17th Edition, illustrating the changes and providing real solutions to the problems that can often occur with practical interpretation.
Written and developed by the Electrical Contractors’ Association, Guide to the Wiring Regulations brings a wealth of experience to the subject and offers clear explanations of the changes in the Standard. Starting with full coverage of the legal requirements the book then goes on to:
provide extensive advice on circuit design, selection and erection, wiring systems, earthing and bonding;
explore the additional requirements of the Standard for protection against voltage disturbances and implementation of measures against electromagnetic influences (EMC);
elaborate on the alterations to the inspection and testing requirements;
feature practical information on the new special locations included in the 17th Edition, particularly exhibitions, shows and stands, floor and ceiling heating systems, mobile or transportable units and photovoltaic power systems;
highlight the changes made in the new edition to existing special locations, including bathrooms, swimming pools, agricultural and horticultural premises and caravan/camping parks.
Guide to the Wiring Regulations is an outstanding resource for all users of the 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671: 2008) including electricians who want a better understanding of the theory behind the Standard, electrical technicians, installation engineers, design engineers, and apprentices. Both trainees and practitioners will find this guide indispensable for understanding the impact of the changes introduced in the 17th Edition (BS 7671: 2008).

Simply Rails 2

Patrick Lenz " Simply Rails 2"
SitePoint | 2008-05-07 | ISBN: 0980455200 | 450 pages | PDF | 11 MB

Want to learn all about Ruby on Rails 2.0, the web application framework that is inspiring developers around the world?
The 2nd edition of this practical hands-on guide for first-time Ruby on Rails programmers will walk you through installing the required software on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. And before you get coding, an entire chapter is devoted to object oriented programming in Ruby, so you'll be completely confident with the Ruby language before you begin working with Rails.
The example application that the book builds - a user-generated news web site - is built upon with each following chapter, and concepts such as sessions, cookies and basic AJAX usage are gradually introduced. Different aspects of Rails, such as user authentication, session cookies, and automated testing are explored with each feature that is added to the application.
The book finishes with chapters on debugging, benchmarking and deployment to a live web server.
By the end of the book, you'll have built a fully-featured Web 2.0 application and deployed it to the Web. And all code is up-to-date for Rails 2.0, so you can begin coding immediately with the latest version of Rails.

Scientific American December 2008

Scientific American December 2008
Scientific American, Inc | 2008 | English | 136 pages | PDF | 18,5 MB

Scientific American Mind is a popular-science magazine, published (first weekly and later monthly) since August 28, 1845, making it the oldest continuously published magazine in the United States. It brings articles about new and innovative research to the amateur and lay audience.

For working scientists, especially in high-tech fields, there are only a few crucial nonjournal periodicals to pore over faithfully, and Scientific American is one of them--its timely and technical features on everything from paleoarchaeology to neural nets set it apart from popular science magazines like Discover. Scientific American emphasizes a wide variety of emerging technologies, giving scientists a chance to keep up in an increasingly specialized professional world. Innovative and controversial developments such as gene patenting and the latest from the unified field gurus are front and center in every issue. It's not all business, though--regular features like Michael Shermer's "Skeptic" column, enticing book reviews, brain-busting puzzles, and James Burke's intellectual-historical meanderings add browsability to this enduring magazine, in business reporting the frontiers of scientific exploration for more than 150 years.
