Karma Queens, Geek Gods, and Innerpreneurs

Rentel, Joe Zellnik “Karma Queens, Geek Gods, and Innerpreneurs"
McGraw-Hill | 2007-05-11 | ISBN: 0071477918 | 256 pages | PDF | 1,1 Mb

What really makes consumers tick?
It's a question every marketer, innovator, entrepreneur, or trend-watcher strives to answer-especially in an age when certain types of consumers are increasingly instrumental in shaping national and even global buying habits.
Karma Queens, Geek Gods and Innerpreneurs is your hands-on guide to getting inside the minds of the people who are setting the trends in art, music, technology, fashion, health, and every kind of consumer product and service. Based on thousands of hours of consumer research conducted by Consumer Eyes, a prominent New York-based marketing firm, this book uncovers nine influential consumer types and reveals how to connect with them, market to them, and create the products that will not only win them over, but their entire social networks as well!
Consumer Eyes founder Ron Rentel takes an entertaining yet serious look at today's most emblematic consumers, analyzing everything from the products they buy, to the activities they enjoy, to the behaviors and attitudes they exhibit. You'll meet such real-life characters as:
Karma Queens-women of a certain age who combine a desire to be in harmony with the universe with an appreciation of material pleasures
Parentocrats-who act out of love to assure their kids security and happiness, yet often deny them the classical joys of childhood
Denim Dads-for whom family involvement means more than climbing the corporate ladder
Innerpreneurs-chief managers of their own “brand,” they find their inspiration within themselves
By using C-Types-rich, three-dimensional consumer portraits combining quantifiable data with expressions of personality-Rentel identifies and illuminates the consumers who set the trends. He not only helps you understand Karma Queens, Geek Gods and other consumer types on a deeper level in order to reach them more effectively in your marketing and advertising, he also offers fresh insight into managing your brand and your business.

Richard Holmes: World War II in Photographs

Richard Holmes: World War II in Photographs
Carlton Book Limited | ISBN: 18422073X | 2000 | 400 pages | PDF | 74Mb

Holmes' poignant book contains 500 photographs, almost all of them black-and-white and most drawn from Britain's Imperial War Museum. A few were taken by prominent photographers, such as Cecil Beaton and Robert Capa, but many of the photographers--some destined to remain unknown, others ordinary officers and men--served with army film and photographic units. There are also captured German and Japanese official photographs. Presentation is by year, from 1939 to 1945. Holmes prefaces each year with an account of its major events and briefly introduces each block of photos within a year. Although most of the pictures are war photos, some reflect the fact that millions of civilians were affected--young children being evacuated from London, a British air raid warden comforting a child rescued from a bombed-out home, German citizens made to view the horrors of the Buchenwald concentration camp, shaven-headed French women accused of sexually consorting with the Germans. World War II enthusiasts will want both books.

How empowered customers and employees can be great for your business

Stirring It Up: How to Make Money and Save the World

Gary Hirshberg “Stirring It Up: How to Make Money and Save the World"
Hyperion | 2008-01-08 | ISBN: 1401303447 | 240 pages | PDF | 1,1 Mb

Gary Hirshberg is the CE-Yo of Stonyfield Farm Yogurt. In Stirring It Up, Hirshberg describes how he built a successful $300 million-per-year business by incorporating environmental principles and practices, and how other companies can accomplish this, too. Making a business green actually saves companies money in the long run -- for instance, by measuring and reducing one's climate footprint, cutting down on trash and packaging, converting waste to energy, and building loyal and sustainable supplier relations, all while boosting consumer loyalty and thus reducing advertising costs.Hirshberg illustrates his points with practical information and advice, as well as engaging anecdotes from the early days of his yogurt company: how a power outage left them milking cows by hand, and how a fire in a Dumpster revealed the need for better packaging. He also describes numerous hands-on grassroots marketing strategies, such as using the yogurt lids for messages about the environment and giving out samples to thank subway commuters for using public transit, and explains how these approaches make a much more powerful impact on consumers than traditional advertising.Included are many examples of other businesses that have saved money by reducing their environmental footprints -- companies such as Timberland, Patagonia, Whole Foods, Newman's Own, Clif Bar, and even Wal-Mart -- all of whom have found that being green can be both cost-effective and financially rewarding. An inspiring book for business owners and managers as well as anyone interested in saving the environment, Stirring It Up demonstrates how companies can work to save the planet, while achieving greater profits and satisfaction, as well.
