Rabies, Second Edition (new link added )
Rabies, Second Edition Stationary Office | Pages: 680 | 2007-06-11 | ISBN: 0123693667 | 42 MB |
Rabies is the most current and comprehensive account of one of the oldest diseases known that remains a significant public health threat despite the efforts of many who have endeavored to control it in wildlife and domestic animals. During the past five years since publication of the first edition there have been new developments in many areas on the rabies landscape. This edition takes on a more global perspective with many new authors offering fresh outlooks on each topic. Clinical features of rabies in humans and animals are discussed as well as basic science aspects, molecular biology, pathology, and pathogenesis of this disease. Current methods used in defining geographic origins and animal species infected in wildlife are presented, along with diagnostic methods for identifying the strain of virus based on its genomic sequence and antigenic structure. This multidisciplinary account is essential for clinicians as well as public health advisors, epidemiologists, wildlife biologists, and research scientists wanting to know more about the virus and the disease it causes.
* Offers a unique global perspective on rabies where dog rabies is responsible for killing more people than yellow fever, dengue fever, or Japanese encephalitis * More than 7 million people are potentially exposed to the virus annually and about 50,000 people, half of them children, die of rabies each year * New edition includes greatly expanded coverage of bat rabies which is now the most prominent source of human rabies in the New World and Western Europe, where dog rabies has been controlled * Recent successes of controlling wildlife rabies with an emphasis on prevention is discussed * Approximately 40% updated material incorporates recent knowledge on new approaches to therapy of human rabies as well as issues involving organ and tissue transplantation * Includes an increase in illustrations to more accurately represent this diseases' unique horror

A History of Inner Asia
A History of Inner Asia Cambridge University Press | ISBN: 0521657040 | 2000 | PDF | 381 p. | 2.5 MB This accessible introduction to Inner Asia traces its history from the arrival of Islam, through the various dynasties to the Russian conquest. The contemporary focus rests on the seven countries that make up present-day Eurasia: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Sinkiang and Mongolia. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, renewed interest in these countries has prompted considerable debate. While a divergent literature has evolved, no comprehensive survey of the region exists. This book will fill the gap and become indispensable for anyone studying or visiting the area. "...eminently readable, often fascinating, and full of quirky but thought-provoking angles on the region's history..." Journal of World History "Soucek...introduces the history and current status of seven countries that suddenly appeared in Western consciousness when the Soviet Union collapsed." Descartes: The Project of Pure Enquiry

Bernard Williams “Descartes: The Project of Pure Enquiry" Routledge | 2005-05-17 | ISBN: 0415356261 | 328 pages | Doc | 1,8 Mb Descartes has often been called the "father of modern philosophy." His attempts to find foundations for knowledge, and to reconcile the existence of the soul with the emerging science of his time, are among the most influential and widely studied in the history of philosophy. This is a classic and challenging introduction to Descartes by one of the most distinguished modern philosophers. Bernard Williams not only analyses Descartes's project of founding knowledge on certainty, but uncovers the philosophical motives for his search. With acute insight, he demonstrates how Descartes's Meditations are not merely a description but the very enactment of philosophical thought and discovery. Williams covers all of the key areas of Descartes's thought, including god, the will, the possibility of knowledge, and the mind and its place in nature. He also makes some profound contributions to the theory of knowledge, metaphysics and philosophy generally, making Descartes essential reading for any student of philosophy. This reissue includes a new foreword by John Cottingham, University of Reading. |

James E. Mark (Editor), Burak Erman (Editor), " Science and Technology of Rubber" Academic Press | 3 edition | April 21, 2005 | ISBN: 9780124647862 | PDF | English | 15 Mb | 768 pages | RS "The single most important property of elastomers-that from which their name derives-is their ability to undergo large elastic deformations, that is, to stretch and return..." A wealth of technical information that can be traced directly to the literature. A well-rounded and informative book. Provides a broad overview of elastomers and materials of rubberlike elasticity and covers a range of areas from elastomer synthesis to vulcanization to tire engineering. The book provides a good and well presented text for the science of rubbery polymers. Each author has collected an extensive bibliography which should prove useful to post graduate specialists. The whole volume is well referenced and indexed....I am not aware of any other single text which covers the scope of rubber chemistry and physics so fully at degree and post-graduate level. Certainly there is not one so generally up to date. |
