The Art of Software Testing, Second Edition

This long-awaited revision of a bestseller provides a practical discussion of the nature and aims of software testing.
You'll find the latest methodologies for the design of effective test cases, including information on psychological and economic principles, managerial aspects, test tools, high-order testing, code inspections, and debugging. Accessible, comprehensive, and always practical, this edition provides the key information you need to test successfully, whether a novice or a working programmer.
  • Hardcover: 256 pages
  • Publisher: John Wiley & Sons; 2 edition
  • Language: English
  • ISBN: 0471469122

The publisher, John Wiley & Sons
Provides a practical rather than theoretical discussion of the purpose and nature of software testing. Emphasizes methodologies for the design of effective test cases. Comprehensively covers psychological and economic principles, managerial aspects of testing, test tools, high-order testing, code inspections, and debugging. Extensive bibliography. Programmers at all levels, and programming students, will find this reference work indispensible. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Inside Flap
When this book was first published in 1979, software testing was far from an exact science. Considered the "dark art" of software development, it was a little-understood process without a set of standard principles.Twenty-five years later, testing hasn’t really changed–but The Art of Software Testing has.

In addition to all the major software testing topics–such as higher-order testing, white- and black-box testing, debugging, code inspections, and walkthroughs–this fully updated Second Edition features up-to-date information on testing twenty-first-century software projects, including vital Internet-based e-commerce applications, as well as details on Extreme Testing, which supports the widely used Extreme Programming development methodology.

Just like the first edition, this revision fills the gaps in the professional literature and provides a practical, rather than theoretical, discussion of the purpose, nature, and principles of proper testing. While the book focuses on methodologies for the design of effective test cases, it also covers the psychological and economic issues that are essential to a full understanding of program testing.

Regional and International Trade Policy

World Bank Technical Paper no. 434. With appropriate preparation and policies, the enlargement of the European Union (EU) will result in a broader and higher-level integration of European agriculture, create an environment more conducive to further liberalization of global agricultural trade, and lead to further opening of European markets. As part of the World Bank's Strategic Compact Initiative, the Bank has coordinated activities to help the ten EU accession countries achieve EU membership. These activities include the preparation of studies to facilitate implementation of necessary reforms and sponsoring seminars and workshops to disseminate and analyze the results. This volume presents the major papers and summaries of one of the Workshop deliberations. This volume includes the following topics: ? lessons learned from other regional agricultural trade agreements ? the evolution of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) ? an analysis of the economic impact of trade flows ? the harmonization of agricultural policies within trade agreements ? the implications of the external trade environment for the accession countries ? the role of sanitary and phytosanitary trade rule in EU accession ? quantifying the incentive and farm income effects of agricultural support policies in transition economies ? major challenges to agricultural input regulation and trade during transition and EU accession ? concluding comments by the World Bank. Speak English Like an American

Remember your good old English textbook which started with an introduction of the characters who would be in the dialogs throughout the units? That's how this book is laid out. Idioms are contextualized and there are various consolidation exercises between units to reinforce them. The accompanying CD is very clear and the voices convey the moods of the characters - although I must say that the man who does Bob's voice sounds incredibly boring at times as his voice doesn't seem to show much pitch variation. Some of the idioms are already known to most high-intermediate students, but there are many others to learn, so it can certainly satisfy those students who resent not having enough "real-life" vocabulary in class. It may also be useful for the student working on his own, once the explanations are very clear. In a nutshell: It's worth buying if you're looking for a simple - yet effective - way to explore the most common idioms of American English. Read more...

Mark Lanegan - The Winding Sheet

The singer for the Screaming Trees, Lanegan here choses to substitute his band's psychedelic yawp for the moody introspection of modern blues. His smooth croon transforms into an angry growl when the music turns stormy. "Mockingbirds" features a treacherously descending piano melody; "Wild Flowers" allows for an out-of-tune guitar to explain its world-weariness. "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" is noted for being the first time a Seattle grunge-rocker tackled the old Leadbelly classic. (The second Seattle guy to tackle it, Kurt Cobain, can be heard on electric guitar and on backing vocals for "Down in the Dark.") --Rob O'Connor

The A-Z of Correct English

Angela Burt is a quiet hero for thousands of people (and the reviewer is one of them) who finds that English is profoundly tough. Though it's my native language, I constantly have problems with spelling, punctuation and grammar. I've been helped a great deal by Angela's other books, but this one is exactly what I've been waiting for. It solves all those niggles about spelling, possessives, style, that have cause me problems over the years. It's a little bible of rectitude. Never dogmatic, never patronising, it's a book that belongs close to the desk of every person who has to put pen to paper. A book that will grow dog-eared with use. But you'll always be grateful that it was written. Read more...
